The Opportunity

Schofield Lothian is an infrastructure consultancy with over 40 years of experience in delivering added-value services to clients in the rail, transport, highways, property and utilities market sectors. The organisation offers in-depth expertise in four key service areas: consents and engagement; environment and sustainability; project management; and commercial management. Chapman Consulting was appointed by Schofield Lothian in 2020 to conduct a Strategic Business Development Review (SBDR) of the business, a key recommendation of which was the production of a number of ‘exemplar’ case studies designed to showcase Schofield Lothian’s breadth of expertise.

The Challenge

The project was undertaken in 2020, at the height of the pandemic and under lockdown. Each case study required detailed input from the Schofield Lothian lead, usually a technical project manager, project engineer or a surveyor. This involved a series of telephone and online Teams interviews designed to extrapolate information on the specific challenges Schofield Lothian faced on each project, and its method for meeting those challenges. Chapman Consulting’s copywriting team translated the output of those interviews into a coherent, accessible narrative which formed the basis of the four case studies.

The Solution

The four case studies were produced in both printed and digital forms. Each told a powerful story regarding Schofield Lothian’s breadth of expertise and problem-solving abilities using accessible, engaging language and striking images. Each was also a testament to Chapman Consulting’s ability to provide closely co-ordinated strategic, copywriting and design services under very difficult circumstances. Schofield Lothian was acquired in 2021 by Assystem, a multi-national engineering firm which specialises in complex infrastructure projects.
